''The History of the King's Sergeants-at-law in Ireland'' Four Courts Press Dublin 2000 p.38〕 James entered Middle Temple in 1522 and was Master of the Revels in 1524.〔Ball, F. Elrington ''The Judges in Ireland 1221-1921'' John Muray London 1926 Vol 1. p.204〕
